AI Implementation in the Workplace can aid Those in Management Positions

5 years ago #Success

A business model is at the very core of every company strategy.  New and innovative business models are, generally, difficult to invent; if something is new it is most likely because of the fact that the execution of the model is different, but not the setup itself.  That being said, in order for companies to gain a competitive advantage, they need to be changing and altering their business strategy often in order to have an edge over the rest.

Amongst the factors that force business models to change, technology is a huge player: more specifically, AI.  Artificial intelligence is the most transformative technology on business models today as it has the potential to give senior management insights into their company processes.  How can the evolution of AI technologies aid senior management? In short, AI can help management re-evaluate their goals, their duties and their decisions; 3 main factors which affect companies on a large scale.

Traditionally, companies may review their goals and targets a few times a year as this exercise takes a lot of time and effort to make realistic predictions.  Thanks to the implementation of AI technologies, goals can be determined in real time and much more frequently.  Artificial intelligence has the capacity to review sets of data and make accurate predictions based on that data, which means that companies can directly alter their strategy based off of the analysis done.

As advanced as AI is now in 2019, it is unlikely that it can replace employees at the moment; however, it can aid in the processes that employees face.  Management must constantly review their employees’ work, discover strengths and weaknesses and also plan a course of action.  With the implementation of AI, reviewing work is much easier thanks to the data analysis that it can provide, along with a quick evaluation of what is going right and what needs to be improved.

Going off of that last point, this type of constant analysis can help the way that decisions are made for a company.  Instead of the traditional method where all decisions in a company are made via a top-down approach, a business model which values a feedback loop is much more accurate and efficient.  Mid level management, with the help from their AI assistants, can give results of several different projects directly to higher management, and a decision can be made on specific processes quickly and more accurately.

How to Smooth the Transition of AI into the Workplace

With the benefits discussed above, it is clear that the implementation of AI into the workplace can have its benefits.  As a manager or a company entity, how can you smooth the transition of AI into the workplace?

The first step is to understand the role that AI needs to play in your company strategy.  What will the machine be responsible for?  What will the employee be responsible for?  There should be a clear distinction so that their roles do not overlap.  If AI is analysing data at high speed, there is no need for an employee to be analysing the same data set – it is not an efficient use of company time.

That being said, if AI analyses certain processes, that is a job that needs no longer to be done by an employee and thus frees up their time to take on different tasks.  It is crucial that the employee realises that AI will not replace them, just aid them, so as to accept the technology and not reject it.

The key to a successful integration of AI into the workplace is to treat it like a new colleague – a capable one who should be trusted.  It is also important to note that AI implementation takes careful set up in order to be useful.  Specific tasks should be defined, and the careful gathering of relevant data along with the correct algorithms to make sense of it all need to be set up.

In sum, it is clear that the implementation of AI into the workplace is changing the way that management operates – food for thought for those in management positions.  Keep up with the latest news for executive positions here on our blog and on our LEDR Executive Solutions LinkedIn page.
